New Businesses Continue To Open
Published Feb 25, 2009

Despite the troubling U.S. economy, the Northeast Tennessee Valley region continues to offer evidence of its resilience.

In April 2009, U.S. Marble of Remus, Mich., plans to open a 65,000-square-foot distribution facility in Johnson City, Tenn., that will serve the southeastern United States. The company, which makes vanity tops, tubs, showers, window sills and floor tile, says initial employment will be between 10 and 15 people. Eventually, the Tennessee plant may add manufacturing operations, according to owner John Bishop. “From looking on a map and evaluating the highway system and Johnson City’s central location to serve eastern and southeastern U.S. markets, we felt that this is the perfect site for our expansion,” Bishop said.

U.S. Marble’s announcement comes on the heels of news that Print Art of McKinney, Texas, is opening a 64,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Greeneville, Tenn. The company, which makes point-of-purchase graphics displays, expects to hire 20 to 30 employees initially.
